NEW Course:
Equity as praxis

April 10 - October 9, 2024
BI-WEEKLY | 12-2 pm ET

equity as Praxis: From Theory to Action

This 12 week course offers an in-depth practice space focusing on what it takes to marry action, reflection and practice; it offers gentle yet firm provocation to catalyze tangible action in the form of practices and approaches toward just systems. We link current knowledge and practices to new ways of approaching the work that leverages the strength and wisdom of those in the room.

Our approach is informed by the works of Tema Okun, Bryan Brayboy, Sandy Grande, adrienne maree brown, Resmaa Menakem, Ibram X. Kendi, Mikki Kendall, Bayo Akomolafe, Norma Wong, Vine Deloria Jr., and Grace Lee Boggs. We state this not to assert a self-righteous laundry list of transformational leaders, but rather to reflect that being forever learners is not enough. Who we are learning from matters. In addition, we study at the feet and beside these leaders and the poets of yesterday, today and tomorrow: Octavia Butler, Pablo Neruda, Luci Tapahonso, Mandy Smoker-Broaddus, Maya Angelou, Martín Espada and Alexis Pauline Gumbs, specifically. We highlight these thought leaders because we believe in manifesting the poetry and scholarship in the “prose of the processes.” Engaging across communities requires both. This type of work is an art that requires rigor, love, and accountability, which means continued learning from the leaders in this field—and we sacredly name these persons as just that.

The course consists of readings, reflective assignments, paired conversations with fellow classmates, guest presentations, one on one coaching sessions with course facilitators and twelve 2 hour virtual sessions over a sixteen week period.  This course offers a deeper dive than participants may have experienced in any past courses because it invites analytical practices and personal awareness and reflection on all the content.  Additionally, course participants will be asked to focus on one way that they can begin moving from a place of learning and conversation into a place of action.
